Report: Megyn Kelly gets new talent rep, hires top Hollywood lawyer as tensions at NBC escalate

It’s increasingly unlikely that she could make a return to the news division.

Megyn Kelly is no longer represented by talent agency Creative Artists Agency, according to a Wednesday night report from The Hollywood Reporter. Kelly also reportedly retained a skilled Hollywood attorney in what some people believe to be a preemptive action for a possible fight with her network, NBC.

What are the details?

The host of “Megyn Kelly Today” is no longer signed with CAA, but according to the report, the talent agency did not provide a reason for the split.

Sources told the outlet that it was Kelly, who sought other representation as CAA also represents NBC News President Noah Oppenheim.

Kelly has been under fire for several days after a controversial Tuesday show segment in which she said she didn’t understand why white people couldn’t dress up in blackface for Halloween, and that it was “OK” when she was a young girl.

Kelly first issued an emailed apology to her NBC colleagues Tuesday night in which she explained that the incident was a teaching moment. By Wednesday morning, her NBC co-hosts including Al Roker and Craig Melvin castigated Kelly for her remarks and said that she owed an apology to people of color at large.

During the Wednesday airing of her show, Kelly issued a lengthy and emotional apology to her audience and those tuned in from around the country.

Kelly hired Attorney Bryan Freedman on Wednesday, according to the report. The outlet explained that Kelly’s hiring of an attorney could be a “sign that she is gearing up for a fight with NBC that could lead to her exit.”

Additionally, Kelly will reportedly not appear on the “Today” show on Thursday or Friday.

Anything else?

On Wednesday night, it was reported that Kelly’s show could be in jeopardy as a result of the controversial remarks.

CNN’s Brian Stelter reported that a source told CNN Business that Kelly’s show will be ending. Spokespersons for NBC News declined to comment.

The Hollywood Reporter also published a similar story on Wednesday night that revealed that Kelly had already been meeting with NBC executives in the weeks leading up to making the controversial remarks to discuss canceling the show.

Kelly reportedly has desires to return to hard news and political coverage, and the outlet reported that her show is set to conclude by the end of the year.

On Wednesday, Variety reported that Kelly is eyeing up a position in NBC’s news division, rather than during the fluffier daytime coverage.
